These accounts were all blocked on enwiki last week at en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/TrendingChina/Archive: Appears to be an attempt to evade scrutiny of replacement of images of weapons with ones of their own.

From their Commons contributions they generally uploaded one image each and added it to the English Wikipedia, then abandoned the account. Each image was washed through a single-upload Flickr or DeviantArt account. On a file like File:Hair Puyi.jpg (which is an uncredited perspective shift of a Reddit photo) the FlickrResourcesBot verified the image but the Flickr account no longer exists, so perhaps it was closed by the user after it had served its verification purpose.

The exception is User:Colimarl who has uploaded a lot of seemingly genuine PD military and nuclear bomb video content, and continues to do so. This suggests these socks may actually be User:NotLessOrEqual, who was uploading that kind of content before being blocked in 2024. They (and their sock farm) also uploaded lot of copyrighted, AI-upscaled weaponry images taken from websites, washed through DeviantArt (initially all through a single DeviantArt account, then switching to separate burner accounts when caught out on that). If the same human is running both User:TrendingChina and User:Colimarl I assume it's better to match enwiki and regard the earliest TrendingChina account as the "main" one, blocking the others as socks. Otherwise we'll end up with mismatched "Sockpuppets of..." categories across the two sites.

If there's a view that this is User:NotLessOrEqual evading their block, they should all be blocked. It's probably too late to run a checkuser, though.

I've tagged some of Colimar's uploads as being AI upscaled without declaration, and replaced File:USAF GAU-5A XM177.jpg with the actual photograph from the museum.nps.gov website that it was claiming to be. Belbury (talk) 13:13, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

I did a CU check for sleepers and found in addition Confirmed: Meiismi, PhilipSura, Creptderby, Gerespur, and RatesWeds (blocked and tagged). All socks moved to Category:Sockpuppets of NotLessOrEqual. --Lymantria (talk) 18:03, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Thanks. Can we delete their uploads as well? Files like File:GBU-12 Paveway II.jpg from Creptderby (a blockily upscaled picture of a bomb, taken from a burner Flickr account) are presumably the same kind of AI-upscaled copyvios as NotLessOrEqual's original uploads, if they were putting this much effort into disguising where they came from. They're repeating earlier socks' approach of finding a picture of a gun online, changing it a bit and upscaling it with AI, and saying they made the image themselves - now with additional time-wasting of sending VRT confirmation.
