My cockatiel is about a month and a half old, and his feathers are puffed up most of the day and he is also closing his eyes and putting his head behind his neck and standing there. Apart from that I think he is okay. Can someone help me understand if I should be worried.

Pierre, help! I recently required a 8year old cockatiel by accident. She’s been rehomed at least three times to my knowledge and has never been socialized with much success. She has a chipped beak, but seems to be eating O.K. But her nostrils seem to be somewhat blocked and she seems to be breathing through her beak at times.I hate to have to grab her to take her to the vet and traumatize her even more than she has already been.I really wasn’t expecting to get another bird(I already have a 3 month old one) but now that I have her, I’ll give her the best home I can. Do you have any suggestions? I really appreciate any help you can give. I’ve already learned so much from your site!

This is Sunday evening. Thursday we picked up our 6 month old cockateil sn hour away at a pet store. He seems happy, affectionate and we are retired so he is out of his cage most of the time. We cover his cage at night, a blanket with a peek open and a nite lite. I am switching him to Higgens pellets and seeds and he has started fresh kale, filtered water. He id in bed 12 hours a nite. Today he napped more than usual and puffs it seems alot. He went to bed early tonite and seems exhausted. Could he just be overly tired from all the change or should I get him to the vet? We are so in love with this little guy!!!

My cockatiel usually whenever I put him somewhere, unless he’s eating, he usually has his feathers puffed out and sleeps a lot. He also suddenly started sleeping at the bottom of the cage. I don’t know what u did wrong or what is happening with him, but I would like to know what to do..

Thank you Pierre. I’m new at this but I love my cockatail. His name is Pierre as well. I find him smart and interesting. Ready your information makes me at ease. I’m usually a ? person with great experience but this is wonderful having Pierre in our lives. I can sit and watch him all day. I still have many questions as a new day comes. I want to be perfect and give him a great happily and healthy life. Than you for your information.
