The birds were in a 7×8 building in Florida with air conditioning. being fed seed for Years. Jorge is a red spectial Amazon parrot I found in homestead fl. In 1994. When I moved to Texas it was too cold mother had married and they had other birds so They took him. He is banded , came into Miami 1992. I found him eating our dog food after a big storm. He had a broken foot. He doesn’t play with toys , he will eat fruits and veggies chopped in a food processer. He doesn’t fly because the cage he was in for 4 years was small and he could not stretch his wings. Coco is a Quaker parrot she is sweet but skittish. from what I remember about 15-20 years old. She was bitten by a McCall and looks like a plucked chicken with a few wing and tail feathers. She is sweet . I’m just not sure what to do to make them more comfy. I have made some positive changes for both. I just want them to be happy but for the most part how should I feed them . Pellets , seed, chop fruits veggies???? Any advice would be helpful

The beds can also make birds hormonal, this can cause nesting behavior, aggression, laying eggs, being egg bound, ect. Birds will find a cozy way to sleep in their cage without a bed.

Same goes with cotton ropes. There are multiple posts on the bird forums by bird owners, mentioning crop impact or strangling in threads. While it might comfort humans to think of soft beds or perches as comfortable for birds, as I used to think earlier too . However, birds are used to sleep on tree barks which isn’t that soft and comfy. Hence natural wood, jute/sisal ropes work best. The closer they are to natural items, the best. I would rather be safe than sorry.
