I had his cage hanging between our dinning room and the down stairs family room was an opening between rooms and there was a phone on the side wall my father would talk on the phone with his friend and he would say some of his conversation he was very smart little bugle. We would repeat words over and over so he would say what ever we said. Tell me am I right or wrong. Sadler he died after 4 years.

I have a very difficult budgie indeed !! I have two budgies which are both the same age (4 yrs) both male and were both bought at the same time. Over the last 4 yrs one of them became so much of a bully that I had to separate them and they now permanently live apart, although their cages are kept side by side. The bully continued to be aggressive so I put him a mirror in which seemed to calm him down. However, he has become OBSSESSED with it !! He is in it all day, feeding it and trying to mate with it. I do want to remove the mirror but don’t want to stress him out further. What do you advise ? Valerie.

Now I see that the mirror might have been a bad idea as it is making it harder for me to connect with & tame the bird. What steps should I take from here to help me tame the current bird I have? I want to buy a second bird but wanted to tame the current one, any advice?

I have 2 budgies Charlie is approx 14mths & Sparkie is approx 7 mths. Charlie is very interactive with us, he talks extremely well. When I got Sparkie his wings were clipped so it took him at least 5mnths to start flying. When he did I noticed he would chase Charlie off perches & wherever Charlie was Sparkie would fly to him, instead of landing next to him he would land on top of him still happening months later but I feel now it’s more on purpose. Sparkie also has a habit of chasing Charlie away from the food dish. With this said I made up two dishes but the past week & a half they both have not eaten very much of veggies, fruit or greens. They stick with the seed only, which i know is not healthy for them. I do feel Sparkie is jealous of the interaction between Charlie & myself although I try to put as much interacting time with both. They do get on well in afternoon & evenings but mornings is when Sparkie is quite boisterous & some days Charlie gets quite over it. How can I curve Sparkie’s over the top behavior? Thankyou Neryl

Will it be mean to the real budgie and be noce to the mirror? – Evelyn

In our humorous minds, we simply thought he was just vain. He is constantly refluxing and on any mirror/reflective surface. The tricky part, even though they we have removed mirrors from their cage, the birds have free reign of our home and are incredibly social. We have a large home with many restrooms. But we also have mirrors outside of our restrooms and I don’t know how to control him from going to those or other reflective surfaces. He has another budgie, and so much human interaction, so socialization isn’t the issue. This article explains so many of his behaviors and gives us a starting point, if you have more tips, it would be so helpful. This is a behavior we have been struggling with for a couple years now and even though he hasn’t lost weight or any physical issues, he is possessive over the mirrors and we need to nip that in the bud. Thanks!

I just got my budgie and he is not coming out of the cage and won’t leave the mirror alone. He is biting me when I go near the mirror. Should I take it out of the cage?

I just read your article about mirrors. Thank you so much for the information and advice! We only just put a mirror in our budgies cage a few days ago. Actually, we’ve only had the birds for eight days. We noticed that one of them was a bit too attached to the mirror, and it seemed to cause some contention for the other bird. Last night they were sleeping in separate parts of the cage. I told my husband I would research the mirror thing and I’m thankful that I did! Do you think we can introduce a mirror some of the time, or not at all? Will they miss the mirror? Waiting for your reply and excellent advice.
